Postgraduates from UQ Heritage Management and Museum Studies visited North Stradbroke Island on Wednesday 7 June to celebrate the end of semester. The group visited North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum as part of their trip where curators Elisabeth Gondwe and Lisa Jackson introduced the museum’s history and its community activities. The group were able to learn about the various issues involved in managing a community museum, local responses to sand-mining and seafront development, before undertaking a short tour of the colonial heritage sites in Dunwich.
Postgraduates are offered the opportunity to participate in a heritage field school on North Stradbroke Island each year, using UQ’s Moreton Bay Research Station on the island. Contact A/Prof Jon Prangnell, School of Social Science for more information.
